Class A CDL Requirements

What Washington Requires

• A combination vehicle with gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, as long as the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle(s) being towed is over 10,000 pounds. Washington State doesn’t recognize class A passenger vehicles.

• Examples: truck and trailer combos, tractor-trailers and flatbeds, livestock carriers, tankers. (When hauling hazardous materials a “hazmat endorsement is required)

What We Provide

One hundred sixty hours for a Class A commercial drivers license including not less than:

(A) Forty hours of classroom instruction.

(B) Eighteen hours of street driving training.

(C) Sixteen hours of training in backing manuvers.

(D) Sixteen hours in proficiency development

(E) Seventy hours of combined lab training, range training, and observation
